Question for the Group.

Where is there a place #1 Be 100 miles from any major interstate. 50 miles from any major 2 lane highway.

Honestly where is there a place that remote.

Land abutting state land is a question in my mind. There would be a whole lot of hungry and distressed people heading for state owned land.

Hungry and Distressed People in large numbers seems very dangerous to you life and property.

I've never been to this place, but here in Washington state there is a settlement called Holden Village that has always intrigued me. To reach it, you have to take a ferry on Lake Chelan and sail for about 50 miles. Then you get off the ferry and travel on a dirt road that leads to the village. That is the ONLY access available by land, and the village itself is next to a pretty remote region of the Cascades. Because Holden Village is the site of a Lutheran retreat camp, all of the land might be owned by one of the Lutheran synods, so that might be a drawback.

Here's more info about it: http://www.holdenvillage.org/

I know a family that went to live in Holden Village for about a year. They lived with the Lutheran community and I think really enjoyed it there. I might be able to share some more information about the place if I can dig up one of the letters they sent us.

analyze nuke targeting maps and wind flows of fallout. If your going to go to that much effort might as well look at where the smallest amounts of warheads are targeted and the prevailing winds.

Storing food is one thing, but being able to get more is another. Run a small farmstead once you're there, get some heirloom seeds and some animals which could be bred and slaughtered.

Know your neighbors! You don't want to move in next to a meth lab or a bunch of unstable screwheads. What I do when I'm looking at a property I might want to live in is hang out there a few days just to see what goes on. People who take care of their property are much more reliable than those who have strewn junk all over the place.
